What you will explore:

The highly advanced semiconductor industry relies heavily on vacuum processes and therefore, vacuum valves. VAT is the undisputable market leader in developing vacuum valves for semiconductor and other industries, such as space and solar. Running operations and sales in such a large and critical company, with thousands of different unique products, requires a good forecasting and planning of the future market demand.  The goal of this project is to contribute to the monthly business forecasting process, establish required changes into the process and tools, and exploit analytics and machine learning approaches to understand various product families and bring transparency into the overall sales and operations planning. In this project you will be mentored by experts in the topics. Further, you will have the opportunity to use the big business data, deeply understand the processes, and have interfaces with various corporate functions (sales, operation, business units etc.).

Possible tasks and work packages are:

• Understand the demand planning process and tools
• Contribute to the demand planning monthly process (incl. alignments with managers, sales organizations etc.)
• Understand and employ an advanced demand planning software
• Establish the needed tools and codes for data streaming to the advanced software, routine data backup etc.
• Understand, extract, clean and analyze the relevant business data
• Use analytical and machine learning techniques in combination with market intelligence for better forecast accuracy

What you will need:

• Studies in business administration, engineering, math, physics or similar
• Communication skill and willingness to run the monthly forecasting process in alignment with many counterparts
• Programming skills in Python, knowledge of machine learning, familiarity with Excel
