YOUR CHALLENGES
This position is responsible for the development and execution of VAT’s global packaging strategy inside the Haag factory and all tasks related to design of packing materials for items technology industry. The Packaging Engineer evaluates current packaging availability and design to create cost improvement strategies for both existing and new packaging design. He coordinates with internal product managers, industrial designers, project engineers, and vendors for new and existing projects.
- Responsibility for executing VAT’s Group packaging category strategic plan
- Review and improve existing packaging designs when needed
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Conduct new packaging design roll out and training to the team lead and production workers
- Participate in new product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market
- Direct involvement in the production scheduling process in order to ensure optimum stock holdings
- Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills through the use of continuous improvement techniques
- Keep abreast of developments across appropriate packaging and manufacturing technologies
- Work very closely with suppliers and cultivate relationships with key commodity suppliers
- Provide verbal, written reports and presentations to senior management
- Participate in periodic business review meetings with external packaging partners
YOUR COMPETENCIES
- BSc/MSc in Packaging Engineering/Technology, Material Science, Mechanics or equivalent of sufficient trackable practical work-experience
- Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma manufacturing concepts a plus
- At least 4 years’ experience in development of packing materials and operations within a manufacturing environment
- Strong technical acumen around packaging requirements
- Customer facing experience in relation to packaging solutions
- Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment
- Experience managing and taking action to achieve KPIs such as savings targets, average weighted delivery terms, etc.
- Ability to get things done, using good judgement to make well-reasoned decisions, even with less than perfect information.
- Acts with a sense of urgency, and willingly takes on tactical roles as necessary to achieve objectives
- Fluent English, German a big advantage
