As a Data Engineer – Data Quality and Governance, you will play a key role in building and maintaining the data infrastructure and governance solutions that enable analytics, AI, and business transformation at VAT. Your work ensures that data is accessible, reliable, and governed—empowering teams across the organization to make informed, data-driven decisions.
You will be part of a global IT team spanning Malaysia, Switzerland, and Romania, collaborating across time zones and disciplines. Your focus will include developing robust data pipelines, implementing data quality frameworks, deploying a data catalog, and supporting governance principles across multiple business streams (e.g., Sales & Operations Planning, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, Human Resources, Connected Machines, IIoT). This is a hands-on delivery role, requiring strong technical skills and versatility to work on evolving tools and topics such as Microsoft Fabric, Purview, Power BI, Power Automate, and future AI-driven solutions.
Your responsibilities include, but not limited to -
- Implement and maintain Data Quality frameworks, including rule execution, monitoring, and automation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Deploy and maintain Data Catalog infrastructure (e.g., Microsoft Purview), including metadata management, lineage tracking, and classification.
- Develop reusable frameworks for ETL, governance automation, and responsibility assignment (RBAC/ABAC).
- Optimize data processing and retrieval, ensuring efficient performance across the data platform and governance tools.
- Develop, construct, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and governance needs across the organization.
- Integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency, reliability, and alignment with business and governance requirements.
- Design and manage data storage solutions, including data lakes and data warehouses, with a focus on scalability, performance, and compliance.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and design improvements to enhance stability, reliability, and scalability.
- Explore AI-driven capabilities for cataloging and data quality automation and ensure data readiness for AI use cases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analytics engineers, business analysts, and stream leads (S&OP, SCM, Manufacturing, HR, IIoT), to deliver high-quality, governed data solutions
Required Qualification :
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role focused on data infrastructure, governance, pipelines, or platform engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong experience in building and maintaining data pipelines, including ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and automation.
- Solid understanding of data integration from multiple sources, ensuring consistency, reliability, and compliance with governance principles.
- Experience with data storage solutions such as data lakes and data warehouses, with a focus on scalability and performance.
- Proficiency in SQL for data querying, transformation, and optimization.
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, or similar languages for data processing and orchestration.
- Knowledge of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with Data Catalog tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview) and metadata management practices.
- Ability to implement and maintain data lineage, classification, and governance workflows.
- Ability to implement and monitor data quality measures, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
- Familiarity with Microsoft ecosystem (Fabric, Purview, Power BI, Power Automate) and cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, or similar modern data platforms.
- Exposure to cloud-based architectures and services (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory).
- Hands-on experience with enterprise Data Catalog platforms (Purview, Collibra, Alation) and governance solutions.
- Exposure to data stewardship processes, responsibility assignment models (RBAC/ABAC), and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices, version control (e.g., Git), and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Experience working in agile environments, applying Scrum methodology.
- Microsoft Certification: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) or equivalent.
- Exposure to AI-driven data quality and cataloging solutions, and understanding of RBAC/ABAC models for governance.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools for data pipelines and governance infrastructure.
